Sorry, unable to answer anything about encryption in this case to say that I'd expect it to be implemented as either ssh's encryption or opensssl. I know the support is still in there, but it has been about five years since the last time I got it to working in either direction. That with ssh (specifically x11-forwarding) can get you a combination of a and b remotely. Can be either side or in a third location. Linux / Unix is built on X11 and that needs an X11 server.

The only app I've found that works is Remmina, but of course that only runs on Linux.
